Indian Banking: The Way Forward
PHD House, New DelhiAfter receiving such an outstanding repeat election mandate the present incumbent government is all likely to continue its policy of inclusive growth and financial inclusion for all. The Indian Banking, is grappling with issues of high NPAs , diversion of funds meant for business purposes to non business purposes and Asset Liability Mismatches (ALMs) arising in critical sectors of economy such as Infrastructure, Power, Real Estate and Manufacturing. These past issues and challenges have adversely affected liquidity in the credit market, profitability, net interest margin, and return on assets of the banks and which in turn changed their lending priorities, credit appraisal norms ,collaterals requirements and ticket size of new loans issued by the banks.
Growth via partnerships in a disruptive Technology environment, Payment Banks Partnerships and Fintech Partnerships are the way forward for the Indian Banking. Banks need to go for go-to-market approach, starting with shortening their strategy cycles to months instead of years, getting better at reading signals of change in this disruptive environment, and becoming tactically focused on being operationally lean and agile in response to changing market conditions, policy and regulatory landscape.
In order to discuss these aforesaid issues and Challenges, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organizing a Banking Baithak on Indian Banking: The Way Forward, 21st June 2019, at 3:30 PM, PHD House, New Delhi. This Banking Baithak aims to increase and elevate the discourse on the banking sector in India, and help develop insights to inform the continued evolution of the Indian banking sector for optimally supporting the growing credit needs of especially MSMEs who have pivotal role to play of growth and job creation in the economy.
